Pork
Our Pork
We raise our pigs to be pigs! All of our pigs are pasture-raised where they can roam and run as freely as they want. They have their own mud-bog, watering hole, which allows them to escape the hot summer months. We feed our pigs Purina Pig Pellets and crimped corn which we mix here on the farm.
Our pigs are spoiled and treated humanely, they receive the best care possible with their well-being at the forefront of every management decision.
We use a reputable USDA-Inspected locker for all our processing to ensure quality in every package of pork that you purchase from us!
Our Fees
There are two popular methods used for selling pork. Hanging Weight or Price per Pound. Here at The Vines, we use the bulk sales method of the hanging weight of the animal for all our sales. However, in the examples below we show you how you can accurately calculate the Price per Pound value too.
We charge $1.50/lb hanging weight on our pork.
We provide the ability for you to purchase 1/2, or a whole pork package, the package size you choose is up to you.
The processing fees charged by our USDA-Inspected butcher average $1.40 per pound and are based on your final cut, curing, and packaging choices. Our processor can explain your cutting and packaging options and discuss your final per-pound costs.
Calculating Your Costs
Here are the calculations for determining your final per-pound price.
An example of a whole pork package cost
- Hanging Weight Cost – If an animal has a 200lb hanging weight
- $1.50 * 200 lbs = $300
- Processing Cost –
- $1.40 * 200 lbs = $280
- Total Cost – $580
- Final Cut Percentage – (65% estimate)
- 65% * 200 lbs = 130 lbs of finished cut, cured, and packaged meat
- Estimated Price Per Pound – Total Cost divided by Received Cuts of Meat
- $580 / 130lb = ~$4.46 per pound
If you bought a 1/2 pork package of the same animal
- Total Cost – $290
- Estimated Finished Cut – 65 lbs
- Estimated Price Per Pound – $290 / 65lbs = ~$4.46 per pound
